Nicola McCartney is a British artist and educator. She has exhibited throughout London and the UK, received public commissions and undertaken residencies in Jordan and her home country. Her monograph Death of the Artist (2018) is published with Bloomsbury. She has also written for The Spectator, Apollo, British Art Journal and Galleries. She was a trustee of the Association of Art Historians from 2012-14 and has been Getty Scholar. She has taught Fine Art and/or critical theory at Central Saint Martin’s, Birkbeck, University of London, and The Cass, London Metropolitan University. Nicola is a graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art and Oxford University. She obtained a PhD from Birkbeck, University of London, in 2016.

Research and practice interests include: Ageing, authorship, celebrity culture, censorship, contemporary art, drag, femininity/feminism, gender/gender-deviance.
